Akshay Kumar’s Eid release ‘Boss’ had a terrific first day opening at
the box-office. The film collected around 14.5 crore on the opening
day. It was actually not expected from the film but Akshay’s magic again
mesmerized the audience. The first day collection is higher than Akshay
Kumar’s last release, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara’.
With 14.5 crore opening day collection, ‘Boss’ has become the fourth
highest opener of 2013 after “Chennai Express”, “Yeh Jawaani Hai
Deewani” and “Race 2″.
“Chennai Express” collected 33.12 crore, followed by “Yeh Jawaani Hai
Deewani” at second place with 19.45 crore and “Race 2″ stood third with
15.12 crore.
The masala entertianer ‘Boss’ on Bakr Eid was screened in more than
3,000 screens. The film has fared well in single theatres than
multiplexes. On Friday the collection dropped down but still it managed
to make 15 crores.
The film opened good in Northern circuit of India like Rajasthan, CI,
CP, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. However, the cricket match between India
and Australia played spoilsport.
The positive word of mouth might work in favor of the film during the weekends.
“It has received a lukewarm response at multiplexes. The film’s
midweek release is a disadvantage since the next day is a working day
and the collections will eventually drop,” trade analyst Amod Mehra told
The Times of India.
Ajit Andhare (COO, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures) said “This film is for
the masses, while we have a whole lot of urban slick heroes, there is
always room for the desi hero. In a way this film is revisiting the
roots, by making cinema that our industry is so known for.”
Akshay Kumar is happy with the first day response of the film and he thanked his fans.
“Today (Wednesday) is the first day of release (of Boss). Everything
is going fine. I am very happy that it has got a good response,” Akshay
told reporters at the Gaity Galaxy theatre here.
“I am very thankful to the audience that they are watching the film and have loved it. That’s what an artist wants,” he added.
Directed by Anthony D’Souza, ‘Boss’ is an action thriller, also
features Mithun Chakraborty, Ronit Roy, Shiv Pandit and Aditi Rao Hydari
in key roles.
